If you haven’t seen the #smearforsmear campaign making its way around Twitter and Instagram in recent weeks, then you probably haven’t been on Twitter or Instagram in recent weeks, because they’re everywhere. I’m a big fan of any #socialmedia campaign that promotes awareness for health issues, and brings it to the forefront of social networking, so I decided to jump on the bandwagon and here’s my #smearforsmear shot.
If you’re a women and at the ages of 25 or over you should receive a letter from your GP inviting you for a cervical screening test or smear test as many people know it. In England this is done at 25, but the age varies in other areas so if you’re unsure ~ just call your registered GP. A smear test is a method of detecting abnormal cells on the cervix. Detecting and removing abnormal cells can prevent cervical cancer.
